In the ancient world Abraham...

In the ancient world Abraham would have been familiar with the many pagan religions. One of the practices of these religions was human sacrifice. Abraham must have reasoned that if the pagans would go so far in the practice of their religion, could he do any less? At the supreme moment when his faith was tested, Abraham proved that his devotion to God was capable of being carned to the furthest possible extreme. He was willing to pay the ultimate price. In his single-minded devotion to God, Abraham was willing to sacrifice his only son, his beloved son.
This all began in the words of the Genesis passage, "After these things God tested Abraham ..." There came a moment in the life of Abraham when it had to be proved whether he was willing to pay the ultimate price for his devotion to God. This moment may come for any one of us. Are we ready to be put to the test?
