The ancient Greek philosopher, Plato...
The ancient Greek philosopher, Plato, is much read and quoted today. He is especially remembered for his reflective insights into the existence of the natural law. He teaches it with the example of a man confined to a dark cave from birth, with no contact in the outside world. Such a person, says Plato, would still have some notion of the existence of God, and right and wrong. His famous "cave example" proposes the teaching of the pre-existence of souls and suggests we are not taught everything by other people and circumstances, but there is a certain innate quality, natural to all people.
