Albert Schweitzer had it all...

Albert Schweitzer had it all! Educated at the universities of Strasbourg, Paris, and Berlin, he was ordained as the curate of the Church of Saint Nicholas in Strasbourg. His towering intellect produced great theological and philosophical works. His creative genius won the respect of the world. At an early age, he had it made! Everything came easily for Schweitzer. But, in 1904, he gave it all up so that he could study medicine. He had become convinced that some kind of reparation should be made for the European mistreatment of the primitive African. So he left the comfort and fame of civilization for the sweaty jungles of Africa. This servant of God bore the iniquities of others, in a sense. And the result is that Schweitzer now is numbered among the "great" who have lived in this century. When Jesus took up our iniquities, it was for the sins of the whole world. This passage of the suffering servant is a remarkable passage describing the work of the Lord: "Oppressed ... cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of ... people." Though he was innocent, yet he died for us. -- Fakes
