Accepting abundance can be hard for us. Most of the present leadership of my church grew up during the Great Depression. They do not trust abundance. They were raised on a theology of scarcity. When times are hard, they work together and sacrifice to meet the needs of the church. But when times are going well, they feel uneasy. They worry. They pull back from commitments, thinking there is something ephemeral about the whole thing, something which cannot last.
