Abraham's faith is demonstrated in his act of radical obedience to the demand God placed upon him. Without so much as knowing why, he was willing to trust God to the point of slaying his own son. But then that's just what faith is -- trust and obedience. There is much talk of faith in our day. Still, for all the talk about faith few of us seem to be able to translate our words into an actual trusting and obeying that even begins to approach that of Abraham. Many of us are more like the man falling off a cliff who managed to catch hold of limb: Hanging there in mid-air he cried out, "Is anyone there?" To his surprise a disembodied voice came back, "Yes, my son. Now let go of the limb and I will bear thee up." After a moment of hesitation, the man cried out again, "Is anyone else there?"
