For about 22 years a strange festival has been taking place in Bunol, Spain. It is the annual Tomatina. Last year I saw a picture in the paper showing flying tomatoes, mashed tomatoes covering the streets, and young people covered with the tomato goo as they rolled in the streets. Over 130 tons of tomatoes were dropped into the streets. Actually the tomato food fight started years before when working-class young people threw tomatoes at vacationing rich kids. The festival started when the town fathers cancelled bullfights that were part of annual festivals.
