In the 1982 NCAA title basketball game Georgetown trailed. North Carolina by one point with just a few seconds to play when the point guard from Georgetown, Sleepy Floyd, made an errant pass to one of the North Carolina players costing Georgetown a possible shot at the championship. Afterward John Thompson, the coach of Georgetown, was one of the first people to meet Sleepy Floyd. Instead of berating him or tearing him down for his mistake, he hugged him and sat down on the bench with him. This picture of compassion showed the world that in the competitive world of college basketball there is always room for love.
