In the 1970s when senior citizen housing for independent
living was a unique experience, I had the opportunity to
participate in the planning and implementation of such a project.
On one occasion we toured some existing housing for our
older friends and we found some horrible conditions: windows that
could not be opened in the summer heat, but with cracks around
them that allowed through bitter cold in the winter; water from
the tap that was rusty red because of deteriorating pipes; and
uninvited little animals that ran freely in the halls during the
day and in the rooms at night.
Then we looked at our plans and dreamed of the day when our
friends on social security, small pensions and welfare would live
in a secure, safe apartment building with friends, gardens,
community rooms and beautiful surroundings.
As good as this accomplishment made us feel, it is nothing
compared to the joy that believers will inherit when they enter
the Kingdom and view the brilliant planning of God.
