In 1957 my special Christmas present was a draft notice from Uncle Sam. By midsummer of July '58 I had taken up residency in Seoul, Korea, where I served at the United Nations Headquarters. One day I was told I was being transferred to a new position. I would be working as an enlisted aide on the staff of the United Nations Commander, a four-star general. I remember meeting the other enlisted aides, the officer aides, and finally the general. It was awesome to say the least. A draftee from the hills of Kentucky being a player on the staff of the top military officer in the Far East.
