In 1937, the rains began to fall in the Midwest, precipitating the greatest flood in the history of the United States. Approximately 150 people were killed, a million people were made homeless, and millions of dollars in property damage was reported. In Louisville, Kentucky, streets became swirling rivers and the Ohio River became a tremendous lake extending for hundreds of miles into several states.
