In 1864 Sir Edward John Poynter engraved the triumphant scene of rejoicing following the Exodus. Miriam leads the women and children of Israel who carry timbrels and lyres. They dance in a long procession followed by the people of Israel. Far behind them rises the land of Egypt with a non-calm sea between. Poynter's graphic portrayal causes the viewer to hum a tune or twirl across the room in celebration of God the liberator.
