"What's more important?"
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Thanksgiving is a good time to look at
our priorities. As we thank God for all that we have, we also
need to make sure that we are not making material things more
important than spiritual things. In this Gospel message, Jesus is
letting people know this truth. We need to share the same message
with the children.
*Ask the children to make a list of all the important things
in their life. Then, ask them to put a 1 by the most important
thing, 2 by the next most important, and so forth. When their
lists are complete, let some share and talk about their rankings.
*For younger children: Have several pictures of things made
up in advance. For instance, have pictures of home, parents,
church, school, food, play objects, and so forth. Be sure to
include a picture of Jesus. When they have placed the pictures in
a ranking, you can discuss them in the same manner as above.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Open with a prayer thanking God for all our blessings. Ask
the children to add to the prayer by naming things that they are
thankful for.
*Sing a hymn of thanksgiving to God, such as "Now Thank We
All Our God."
