We have an inheritance
Children's sermon
Object:
a will, yours or a sample
Good morning! Can anybody tell me what it means to get an
inheritance? (Let them answer.) Getting an inheritance means
receiving something from somebody who has died. Most people have
something called a will. Here is my will (or a sample will).
(Show the will.) A person fills this out to let everyone know
what he wants done with his property after he dies. If you are
named in somebody's will to receive something, what you get is
called an inheritance.
Now, I don't know if any of you are named in a will right
now. Chances are that you are named in your parent's will, but I
do know that each one of you is going to receive an inheritance
from somebody who has already died. Can you guess who I'm talking
about? Who has died and left each one of us an inheritance? (Let
them answer.)
Jesus Christ died a long time ago and he left each of us a
very important inheritance. He didn't leave us money or property,
but he left us something much more important than money or
property. What did he leave us? (Let them answer.) He left each
one of us a gift of eternal life! Everyone who is named in his
will has received the inheritance of eternal life with him in
Heaven. Are you named in his will? (Let them answer.) If you
believe that Jesus died on the cross to pay for your sins, you
are named in his will! Do all of you believe this? (Let them
answer.) Good! Then you are in his will. Let's thank him for
giving us this wonderful inheritance.
Dear Jesus: We thank you so much for leaving us the gift of
eternal life. It's the most wonderful inheritance we will ever
receive. Amen.
