Three in one
Children's sermon
Object:
a picture of a man, any man
Good morning! Today is "Trinity Sunday." Can anyone tell me
what we mean when we speak about the "Trinity"? (Let them
answer.) Well, the word "Trinity" refers to three, so when we
speak about God as "Trinity," we are talking about three. Are
there three different Gods? (Let them answer.) No, we have only
one God, but there are three different persons in this one God.
Can anybody name them for me? (Let them answer.) Yes, we have the
Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Now, I know that is very hard to understand. How can God be
one and still be three? Let me see if I can show you something
that might help. Here is a picture of a man. Now, this man is a
son, isn't he? Everybody has a father. He is also a father
because he has a son. In addition to being a son and a father, he
also has a job. He's a doctor. So, he is only one person, but he
is a father, a son, and a doctor. In a similar way, God is
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each of these three persons is a
separate person, but they are all one and the same God. Does that
help you understand the Trinity? (Let them answer.)
By the way, since God is Father, who are His children? (Let
them answer.) Well, Jesus is His Son, but you and I are also His
children. The Bible tells us that everyone, who is led by His
Spirit, is His child. God's Spirit leads all who believe in
Jesus, so we are all children. Let's thank God for letting us be
His children.
Dear Father in Heaven: We thank You for sending us Your Holy
Spirit who has made us Your children. We do not fully understand
the Trinity, but we know that You are Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit and that we are Your children. It is enough for us to know
this until we get to Heaven where we will understand it fully.
Amen.
