Is someone praying for you?
Children's sermon
Object:
a children's book of prayers
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you pray every day?
(Let them answer.) I brought a book of prayers for children with
me this morning. There are many different prayers in this book.
(Hold up the book and show them the different prayers.) Have you
ever prayed for anyone? (Let them answer.) Do you think anyone
has ever prayed for you? (Let them answer.)
I want to tell you a story about a boy about your age. The little boy lived with his parents. The boy became very sick. He was so sick that he missed school. He was even so sick that he had to go to the hospital. While he was in the hospital he began to receive get well cards in the mail every day from different people. He began to receive cards from other students in his Sunday school class. At the bottom of the card each student would write his name and then write these words: "I hope you will get well soon. We are praying for you."
This story reminds me of this morning's lesson. In the lesson we learn that two of Jesus' disciples, named Peter and John, prayed for others. One of the things that Peter and John prayed for was for people to receive the Holy Spirit. That means that they wanted God's spirit to fill the person.
Here's what I want you to remember today. When you pray remember to pray for others. Pray for persons like your family members. Pray for those who are sick. Pray for persons to be filled with God's love. Peter and John prayed for others. You can too.
