Recharged back to life
Children's sermon
Object:
toy (or flashlight) with dead batteries, battery
recharger and charged batteries
Good morning, boys and girls. I brought a (name the object)
with me this morning. It uses batteries. How many of you have
toys that need batteries? (Let them answer.) This is a lot of fun
to play with until the batteries die. But, when the batteries die
the toy is useless isn't it? (Let them answer.)
Thank goodness that someone invented rechargeable batteries. When I have rechargeables I don't have to toss away the dead batteries. (Simulate recharging batteries.) Instead I place the worn-out batteries in the recharging unit and turn it on. In a few hours my batteries are recharged and are as good as new. I can put them in my toy (place the recharged batteries in the toy and turn it on) and my toy comes to life again.
These recharged batteries remind me of Jesus. Why is that? (Let them answer.) Jesus is like a recharged battery. On Good Friday Jesus was killed. He was dead. His body was placed in a grave. But Jesus was different than anyone else. Jesus conquered death. He came back to life. That's why he reminds me of these recharged batteries. Today is Easter. It is the greatest day in history. Why is that? Easter proves that Christ died for all of our sins. Easter proclaims that Christ was raised from the dead. That's why Easter is so important to Christians. The next time the batteries in one of your toys dies, I want you to remember Jesus. He is like a rechargeable battery. He died but came back to life. He did this for all who believe in him.
