A real treasure in our chest
Children's sermon
Object:
a picture of a treasure chest overflowing with riches
Good morning! I brought a picture to show you today. Can you
tell me what this is? (Show the picture and let them answer.)
Yes, this is a picture of a treasure chest full of very expensive
things. There is money and gold and jewels of all kinds. How much
do you think this would be worth if you sold it? (Let them
answer.) Do any of you own a treasure chest like this? (Let them
answer.) No, I didn't think you did, but if we did own it, we
would certainly be rich, wouldn't we? (Let them answer.)
Well, I want to tell you today about a treasure that you do
own that is worth much much more than this treasure chest or any
other treasure chest in the world. The treasure I want to talk
about is also in a chest, but not a chest like the one in the
picture. The treasure that you and I own is in this chest (point
to your own chest). What treasure do you think I am talking
about? (Let them answer.)
The treasure that you and I own is the wonderful gift of
eternal life which God gives freely to everyone who believes in
Jesus. I said it was in your chest because it is in your heart.
This treasure is worth more than all the treasure chests in the
world. How much do you think the richest man in the world would
pay for this gift? (Let them answer.) Well, he might be willing
to pay everything he owns, but it can't be bought for any price.
It's a gift that God gives, but only to those who believe in
Jesus. Do all of you believe in Jesus? Do you know that he died
on the cross to pay for your sins? (Let them answer.)
Okay, if you believe that, you have this wonderful treasure
in your chest, and you must guard this treasure because the devil
would love to steal it away from you. If you continue to come to
church, study your Bible, and pray, the devil can never steal it
from you. Let's pray now.
Dear Heavenly Father: We thank You so much for giving us the
treasure of eternal life. Help us guard and keep it forever.
Amen.
