Prophet Jesus
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Jesus fed the people and healed them
and they wanted to make him their king. Today Jesus comforts us
and grants us peace and we are content to make him our heavenly
wish-granter, but Jesus is far more than that. He is our Savior.
* Act out the scene of the disciples coming to Jesus and feeding the 5,000. You might use the bread left over from the children's sermon.
* Discuss the concept of Jesus as "the Bread of life."
* Make bread. If possible, make some communion bread for your church. Tie in the making of bread with Jesus, the Bread of life.
* Relating the text to life: Bread fills our stomachs and meets an important need. Jesus fills our need for God. He is spiritual bread: the Bread of life.
Sunday school assembly opening:
* Take up a special offering for the hungry.
* This might be a time to act out the story.
* This lesson is also about sharing and giving what God has first given us. Before Jesus shared the food with the people, he blessed it with prayer by saying thanks to God. Before Jesus could share the food, a boy had to share the bread and fishes he had with others. Sharing multiplies blessings.
* Encourage your children to share their blessings with others through the offerings you perhaps have as part of the opening or through the congregation's giving.
