Good morning, boys and girls. Today we are going to talk about marriage. How many of you have heard about marriage? (let them answer) Is anyone here married? (let them answer) None of you are married. Do you know anyone that is married? (let them answer) Lots of people are married, aren't they!
Did you know that the Bible talks about marriage? (let them answer) A long time before Jesus walked on earth, people were talking about marriage. As a matter of fact, the first two humans, Adam and Eve, were married. Their children got married and their grandchildren got married.
Now everyone did not stayed married. When people who are married get unmarried, we have another word for it. Do you know what that word is? (let them answer) That's right, we call it divorced. Something happens between a husband and wife and they decide that the best way to solve the problem is to get divorced.
Jesus taught that when two people get married, they should become like one person. I brought along a little experiment that I want you to watch. I have a couple of things you find in a doctor's office. I also have some superglue. I am going to put some of the superglue on both pieces of wood and press them together. When I am finished, I no longer have two pieces of wood but only one.
It is God's desire for people who want to be married to have a lot of God's love. Both people need to have the love, not just one. Remember we put glue on both pieces of wood. The glue is like love. It must be strong, so strong that when times of trouble come, the pieces will not come apart but will remain one.
Love is more than just a feeling. Love is understanding each other, sharing with each other, listening to each other, working for each other, and forgiving each other. When people get married, they don't marry someone just because she is pretty or he is handsome. They don't marry one another because one person is rich or because one person is famous. A man and a woman should get married because they are filled with love and they want to live like a team that is never separated.
Marriage is special to God. It is God's hope that when men and women make the decision to get married they should be joined in love and not separated.
So the next time you see some superglue, I hope you think about that special kind of love that God gives married people that keeps them together and does not allow them to separate.
