"God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places." (v. 20)
Good morning, boys and girls! How are you this morning? (allow answers) Today we are going to talk about power. What is power? (allow answers) There are a lot of ways to define power! When we talk about power, we can talk about physical power. That is what you have if you can lift big weights like this one! People who go to the gym and work out or play sports often have a lot of physical power. So do people who do jobs that involve a lot of lifting. Can you think of people who have physical power? (allow answers)
Another kind of power is machine power. A truck that can pull a heavy load has to have a lot of power! Sometimes people compare cars based on how much power they have. There are also machines in factories that have a lot of power. They might not move like cars and trucks, but factory machines often have to have a lot of power so that they can lift heavy parts. Can you think of something that has machine power? (allow answers)
A third kind of power is energy. Your house has power when the lights are on. You can use wind power with a windmill, water power with a water wheel, or solar power by using solar panels to use the sun's energy. Can you think of something that uses different kinds of energy power? (allow answers)
When you get into harder math, there is even something in math called a power! It is a complicated math equation, but it is called a power.
There is also political power. Political power is what the president of the United States has. Someone who is the king or the prime minister in other countries would also have this kind of power. Having political power means you get to make decisions and tell people what to do, and they have to listen to you!
Can you think of any other kinds of power? (allow answers)
There is another kind of power we haven't talked about yet. It is the kind of power that is in our Bible verse. Our Bible verse talks about God's power. God's power is the last kind of power! Do you think God's power is greater or less than the other powers we have talked about? (allow answers) God's power is greater than all those others! That's what makes his power so amazing. No matter what kind of power we have on earth -- physical, machine, energy, political, or even math -- God's power is greater. That can be reassuring for us. No matter how much power we have or don't have, we can always rely on God to make things right. Because if God decides he wants to do something, no one on earth can be powerful enough to stop him. And that's real power! Amen.
