several clocks all set at different times
Good morning! I have (three) clocks here and they all say
something different. Who can tell time? (Let them answer.)
Okay. What time is it? Can you tell me exactly what time it is?
(Let them answer.) It would be hard to tell exactly what time it
is when all of our clocks say a different time.
One thing we know for sure. The time is NOW! We don't need a clock to tell us that NOW is NOW! Now is the moment. THEN is when? (Let them answer.) THEN is the past. What is WHEN? (Let them answer.) WHEN is yet to be. It is in the future.
Sometimes when we read the Bible we want to think that it talks only about what happened THEN. We know that Jesus and the disciples lived a long time ago. All the stories come from long ago. We tend to think that the Bible talks about THEN instead of NOW.
Sometimes people think that our relationship with God is WHEN -- in the future. People might say things like, "WHEN I get big, THEN I'll be a Christian," or "WHEN school starts, THEN I'll get serious about God."
Paul writes that NOW is the time for our relationship with God. It's nice history to know what happened in the past -- back THEN. And it's fun to think about the future -- WHEN. But God is with us right now.
So -- WHEN is it a good time to relate to God? (Let them answer.) NOW is the time. We don't need clocks to tell us. We don't need some kind of alarm to remind us. NOW is the time to know Jesus as your best friend and Savior.
Let's all hold hands and say a prayer to Jesus.
Dearest Lord Jesus: We ask that you be with us NOW. We are your followers NOW. NOW is an important time in our lives and we want to spend that important time with you. Amen.
