Not good enough!
Children's sermon
Object:
none needed (a picture of a deep gorge might help)
Imagine that you are walking on a hiking trail and you come to
a place where there was once a bridge, but it is now gone. You
look at the trail and where it ends, and you see the rest of it
on the other side of the deep ditch between you. You know that no
matter how hard you try, there is no way you can jump across that
deep ditch.
That is how we are when it comes to going to heaven. Not one of us can make it. It is too hard to save ourselves. We just can't do it. It is impossible.
We know of only one way to get from here to there -- a bridge. Jesus is our bridge between earth and heaven. We cannot save ourselves. We can only trust in Jesus. Jesus will not fail us. Like a sturdy bridge, Jesus will hold us up.
I'm glad we have Jesus to trust, aren't you?
Thank you, Jesus, for being the bridge we can cross over to be near God. We are glad that we can trust you. Amen.
