King over all
Children's sermon

A crown (you may make one and wear it)
Good morning, boys and girls. Why am I wearing a crown this
morning? (Let them answer.) I'm wearing a crown because today is
Epiphany Sunday. This is the day that the church remembers the
wise men who visited baby Jesus. Sometimes the wise men were
called kings. So, my crown is for Jesus and the three wise men.
The wise men knew that Jesus was the king.
I know that you all know about the wise men. The Bible says that they came from the East. Which direction is East? (Let them answer.) How many wise men visited Jesus? (Let them answer.) What gifts did the wise men bring Jesus? (Let them answer.) I'm really impressed about all you know about the wise men. I want to tell you the story about the wise men's visit, according to our lesson this morning. The Bible says that wise men from the East came to Jerusalem. They told everyone that they came to visit the child who has been born king of the Jews. They saw his star and came to visit him.
When King Herod heard this he was afraid, because he didn't want anyone else to be king. He told the wise men that he wanted to find Jesus also. But King Herod did not want to worship Jesus like the wise men. King Herod wanted to kill Jesus. The Bible says that the wise men found where Jesus was. They were very happy when they found Jesus. The Bible says that they were "overwhelmed with joy." Have you ever been that happy? (Let them answer.) They brought three gifts. What did we say those gifts were? (Let them answer.) The gifts were gold, frankincense and myrrh. Do you know why I believe the wise men were very wise? They never told King Herod where Jesus was.
Now you know why I'm wearing a crown today. I'm remembering the wise men who proclaimed to all people that Jesus is our king.
