Jesus is coming back
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: In this Gospel reading, we hear the Good
News that Jesus is coming back, and this is something to which
every Christian should be looking forward. Let's be sure that our
children have no fear regarding this event, but see it as
something wonderful in their future.
*Ask the children to draw a picture of Jesus coming back to
earth in the clouds. When they have finished their pictures, let
them show them and talk about them. See if the pictures reflect a
positive attitude about the Second Coming or a fearful one.
*Read the Gospel text and then discuss with the children why
believers have no fear regarding the Lord's return. Ask them to
tell you why they think Jesus will take them with him into
Heaven. Look for any indication that they think that it depends
on their own works. Be sure they get the message that Jesus will
take into Heaven all those who believe in him. At the conclusion
of your discussion, ask for a show of hands of all those who
believe Jesus died on the cross for them. You can assure them
that their belief makes them fully prepared for his return.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Put up a large calendar and ask them to tell you how many
more days it is until Christmas. Count off the days on the
calendar to show that it is exactly 22 more days. Then explain
that Christmas marks the first coming of Jesus. Ask if anyone can
tell you when his Second Coming will take place. Be sure they
understand that nobody knows when that will take place.
