Help one another
Children's sermon
Object:
some candy
Good morning! I brought something good for you this morning.
(Show the candy.) Would all of you like to have some of this?
(Let them answer.) Here's all you have to do to get some. I'm
going to put the candy over here (take it several feet away from
where they are). Now if one of you can reach the candy without
moving your feet from where you are sitting/standing, all of you
can have some. (Let them, without success, attempt to reach it.)
Okay, it's obvious that nobody can reach that far. Suppose I
make it easier by doing this. If one of you can reach the candy
without losing contact with the others, do you think you could do
it? (Let them answer.) Yes, by holding hands we can send someone
over there to get it and still stay in contact. Let's do it. (Let
them reach the candy by forming a line.)
What this shows us is that we need to help each other if we
are going to get along in this world. The Bible tells us that we
need to encourage one another and build one another up. That's
what we were doing here, encouraging and cooperating with each
other. The result was that we got what we wanted. When we tried
to do it alone, we couldn't do it.
Do you think it is a good thing to encourage and help each
other? (Let them answer.) Let's ask God to help us do that.
Dear God: We need Your help to remember how important it is to
encourage and help each other. Please bless us with the wisdom to
see that we need each other. Amen.
