a list, such as might be given to a babysitter by parents
who are leaving children for the evening, and a Bible
Good morning! I have here a list that parents made out for a babysitter. What is a babysitter? Have any of you ever had a "babysitter" stay with you?
Some times when a babysitter comes you get a little upset because you really don't want your mother or father or both parents to leave. But the parent has made a list for the babysitter. What do you suppose is on that list? (Let them answer.) That list contains things such as phone numbers and expected time of return and where to find things if the babysitter needs them.
One day Jesus told his disciples that he was going away. But it was very much like parents leaving for the evening: "I am going away," he told them. "And I am coming back." Going and coming.
Right now in this world Jesus is gone, but we are not alone. Jesus promised his presence -- a Holy Spirit -- a Helper who would always be with us until he returns.
I am glad that we have God's presence with us. I look forward to the day when I shall see Jesus face to face. Jesus left a list to use while he is gone. It's a large list. It's the Bible. It tells us about God and about Jesus and what to expect until he returns to us.
