God watches over us

Merry Christmas! Did you know that it's still Christmas? Christmas isn't just one day. The celebration of Christmas goes on for 12 days, and it's only been five. You can still say "Merry Christmas" for seven more days!
Jesus was just born on Christmas, so this week we're still learning about Jesus as a baby. We'll talk later about Jesus as he grows older. You already know that there were people who didn't like Jesus when he was grown up -- we've talked about that before. Well, some people hated him even when he was just a tiny baby.
A man named Herod wanted to hurt baby Jesus. He had heard that Jesus was going to be a wise and powerful king, so he sent people to find and kill him. Today's lesson is about Joseph, Jesus' father, and all the things that he did to keep baby Jesus safe. Listen to today's reading. (read Matthew 2:13-23)
I hear an amazing thing in this story. Three different times God warned Joseph about something dangerous that was going to happen. An angel appeared to Joseph in his dreams to warn him and tell him what to do to stay safe. I think that's really cool. God was protecting Jesus and telling Joseph how to take care of him.
Even when we aren't aware of it, God is watching out for us too. He loves us and helps us when we have troubles. I wish I could say that we'll never have any problems, but we're always going to have problems. Even Jesus had big problems to handle. What I can say is that God has promised to give us what we need to get through our troubles. Just like he was watching over Jesus, he is watching out for us all the time.
Prayer: God, it's amazing how you watched out for Jesus. Help us see that you are watching out for us too. Amen.
