God is our partner
Children's sermon
Object:
one roller skate
Good morning, boys and girls. (Hold up the one roller skate
and ask the question.) What's missing? I only have one roller
skate. Have you ever tried to skate with just one roller skate?
It's pretty difficult. It's not much fun. I really need the
second roller skate to have a good time, don't I? I'm missing my
roller skate partner. When you want to play there are some fun
things you can do by yourself. There are many things that you
need a friend, or a partner to do with you.
Let me tell you a story about a boy your age who went alone to the playground. Let's see what happened to him when he had no partner to play with. A boy went to the playground alone. He wanted to play. He tried the teeter-totter. He couldn't do it without a partner. He tried four square. He couldn't do it without a partner. He tried tetherball. He couldn't do it without a partner either. Just as he was ready to go home, one of his friends arrived. Now that he had a partner, he found that he could play on the teeter-totter, and all the other playground toys. When he had a partner, he could do many things.
Our lesson this morning tells us that we have a partner who helps us with the work of the church. That partner is God. God can't win the world alone! God needs us to help. God needs people like you and me to tell others about God's love and about Jesus. When God is our partner we can tell others about God's love. God can't do it without us. We can't do it without God.
The next time you go roller skating, remember that you need two skates. One skate is a partner to the other. The next time you play on the teeter-totter remember that you can't do it without a partner. Remember also that God is your partner. God is your partner when you tell others about God's love. God can't do it alone. God needs you to help.
