With God, it's easy
Children's sermon
Object:
ten playing cards (ace marked so you can identify it),
and some candy
Good morning! I'd like to play a game with you this morning.
I brought some candy as a prize for all of you if you can win
this game. Would you all like to play? (Let them answer.) Okay,
here's how the game is played. I'm going to shuffle these ten
playing cards and spread them out here in front of you face down.
One of these cards is an ace. (Show the ace.) Now, if you can
guess which of the ten cards is the ace you will all win the
candy. Let's do it. (Shuffle the cards and spread them out.)
Before you try to guess, let me ask you this. What are the
chances that you will be able to guess which of these ten cards
is the ace? (Let them answer.) Yes, the odds are against you.
There's a very good chance that you will pick the wrong card,
isn't there? (Let them answer.) And if you pick the wrong one,
you would all lose, wouldn't you? (Let them answer.) Yes, so it
would be nice if you got some help to pick the right card. I can
help you. Pick this one. (Point out the one that is the ace and
let them select it.)
Once, the disciples of Jesus asked him how anybody could get
into Heaven because it seemed so hard. He told them that, with
God, all things are possible. Just like it was easy for you to
pick the right card when I showed it to you, getting into Heaven
is easy if you let God show you the way. God tells us that all we
have to do is believe in Jesus. Do all of you believe in Jesus?
(Let them answer.) Okay, so you already know the way to Heaven.
God shows it to you just like I showed you where the ace was.
Let's thank God for showing us the way.
Dear Father in Heaven: We praise You and thank You for showing us
that the way for us to get into Heaven is to believe that Your
Son, Jesus, is our Lord and Savior. Amen.
