A gift from God
Children's sermon
Object:
a gift that you've received
Good morning, boys and girls. I brought something with me this
morning that I want to share with you. (Show your object.) This
is something that is very special to me, although it doesn't
appear to be important. This is a gift I received from someone.
(Explain why it is important and how you received it.) Have any
of you ever received any special gifts that are like this? (Let
them answer.)
In case you can't think of any special gift that you've received recently let me tell you something that's very special that you've received and you may not know it. God has a gift for each of us, every day of our lives. That's what our lesson today tells us. God's gift doesn't come wrapped in a gift box like a birthday present, however. The gift that God gives us isn't something that you can hold, like my special gift. Do any of you have any idea what God's gift to us is? (Let them answer.) God's gift to us is God's love and God's grace. This gift comes to us every day. All we need to do to receive the gift is to have faith and to believe in God. You might ask, how can I have faith and believe in God? One answer is that you are in church this morning. In church and Sunday school you learn about God and about God's love. As you learn about God, you soon begin to believe and your faith grows.
Did you ever wonder what happens when you have a bad day? That's a day when things don't go right for you. You may have gotten into an argument with a friend or family member on a day that doesn't go right. Do you think on a day like that God still gives you the free gift? The answer is yes! That's another great thing about God's gift. The gift of love and grace comes to all believers, whether you are having a good day or a bad one. God loves all believers.
Remember this week that each day you receive a gift from God. You receive it because you believe in God. The gift is God's love.
