Galatians 4:4-7
Children's sermon

A photograph of your family
Good morning, boys and girls. I want to show you a photograph
of my family. (Identify the family members in the photo.)
Everyone here this morning has a family. When we talk about
families, sometimes we include grandparents and cousins.
Sometimes we even include very close friends. Some of you have
small families. Some have large families. Some of you live near
your grandparents and other family members. Some live many miles
from your grandparents and other family members.
Some families adopt children to be part of their family. Sometimes when a family lives far away from its grandparents it becomes friends with an older man and woman. Often that man and woman become like an adopted set of grandparents. Do any of you have "adopted" grandparents like that? (Let them answer.) When families adopt children or grandparents that family gets larger.
Now I want to tell you something that you didn't know. All of us here this morning are part of a very special family. You are all part of this family. (Your minister's name) is part of this family. I am part of this family. Everyone in our congregation is part of this same family. Does anyone know what special family this is? (Let them answer.) We are all part of God's adopted family. It says so in this morning's lesson. The lesson says that we are all God's own children. And since we are God's children, everything God has belongs to us, for that is the way God planned it.
When you go back to where you were sitting with your family, look around you and remember, we are all children in God's family.
