Forgiveness certificate
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: This lesson is about forgiveness. Jesus said to
forgive someone 77 times. This means to keep on forgiving. Tell
your students the story about Peter asking Jesus how many times
someone must forgive someone else. Jesus' reply was to never stop
forgiving someone else, by using the number 77. Talk with your
students about the word "forgiveness" and what it means.
Use this experience to create forgiveness certificates. Depending on your students' ages, the students may create these with your help, or you can create them for the students to decorate.
Certificates can be 8 1/2 by 11 or 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 sheets of paper. Create these in a way that suits you. We suggest to have "Forgiveness Certificate" written at the top. Under it could be this statement: "I promise to forgive others not 7 but 77 times." Have a line for the student's name, another line for the date, another for the church name and Sunday school class, and another for the teacher's name.
Have students complete the writing needed and then decorate the certificates.
Parents: Your child learned about forgiveness. Jesus said to forgive someone 77 times, meaning again and again. Suggest that your child count 77 objects around your house, to show just how great the number 77 is. These objects could be marshmallows, Legos, piano keys, crayons, paper clips, seeds or whatever you suggest.
