Follow the Leader
Children's Activity
Teachers or Parents: Being a disciple of Jesus is not an easy task. Our children should learn early that they are called to follow Jesus and that this task may involve hardship, persecution, or even death. The society in which we live will continue to entice the children into all kinds of things that are contrary to the will of our Father in Heaven. We need to teach them to continue to follow Jesus no matter what temptations they may experience.
*Describe a variety of situations that children of their age might encounter where "going along with the crowd" would mean doing something that would not be pleasing to God. End each description with the question, "What would a follower of Jesus do?" Discussions should help them see that being a follower is not always easy.
*Play a game of "Simon Says," but instead of Simon make it "Jesus Says." After many have dropped out and you have a winner or winners, tie it into the importance of folllowing Jesus and doing what he tells us to do.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Play a game of "Follow the Leader," going around the area where you meet doing several things the children will also do as they follow you. When done, talk about the importance of following Jesus and doing what he wants us to do.
