A descending dove
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: Today's Bible story describes God's spirit like a
dove descending. You can help your students create a project that
shows a descending dove. Create an example first, to show
students how it works.
You need one 8 1/2-by-11-inch paper. On this paper draw a picture (use the 11-inch size as the horizon) of John baptizing Jesus. Using scissors, make a 2-inch horizontal cut near the center of the page. On a separate sheet draw a dove with wings spread about 3 inches across. Color and cut out the dove. Cut a strip of paper about 8 by 1 inch. (You could substitute a straw in place of the strip of paper.) Tape or glue the dove to one end of the strip. Insert the dove on the strip through the cut in the paper. By moving the dove, it will descend on Jesus as he is being baptized.
After the projects are completed tell your students today's story. Have them listen for the part in the story when God's spirit descends on Jesus like a dove. Students can descend their doves at that point in the story.
Parents: Your child created a descending dove drawing of Jesus being baptized. Have him retell the story to you.
