A complete puzzle
Children's sermon
Object:
a jigsaw puzzle
Good morning! Have you ever put one of these together? (Show
the puzzle and let them answer.) This particular puzzle has _____
pieces, so it would take us quite a while to put it together.
What if we worked hard on the puzzle and we got it almost
completely together and than found that there was one piece
missing? How would you feel about that? (Let them answer.) Yes,
that would be discouraging, wouldn't it? Has that ever happened
to you? (Let them answer.) The puzzle may be a really pretty
picture, but we can never see how good it is because of that one
missing piece.
You know, the church is a lot like that puzzle. All the
members are the pieces of the puzzle, and when they are all
working together and doing what God wants them to do, it's like a
beautiful puzzle that is complete. But, when one member is
missing, one person isn't doing his or her job, it's like a
puzzle with a piece missing. It just doesn't fit together right.
Would you like to have our church be a complete, beautiful
puzzle or an incomplete one? (Let them answer.) Of course we
would all like every piece to be in its proper place. Let's ask
God to lead all of our members to fit in the place that God has
prepared for them.
Dear Father, God: Please help all the members of our church find
the proper place for them to serve so that we can be a beautiful,
complete picture of what You want the church to be. Amen.
