Being There
Children's sermon
Object:
A microphone
Good morning! Have any of you ever been in a department store
or a grocery store with your mother or father and gotten lost?
Have you suddenly found yourself all alone and you didn't know
where your parent was? (Let them answer.) Well, if that happens
and we are afraid, who's the first person we call out for? (Let
them answer.) Yes, of course, we call out for the missing parent.
We yell, "Mommy!" or "Daddy!" We want to get back together with
our missing parent.
Now, if you don't find them right away, one of the people who
works at the store will get on a microphone like this (show them
the microphone) and will announce over it that you are with them
and ask your parent to come and get you. Soon, you will be
reunited with your missing parent and that will feel pretty good,
won't it? (Let them answer.)
Well, in the same way Jesus has promised us that he will come
to save us if we call on him. He knows that we all get lost at
times and are not close to him. We wander away and get involved
in all kinds of things that keep us from thinking about Jesus.
When that happens, and we find ourselves in some kind of trouble,
we need to remember that Jesus promises to save us if we call on
his name. We don't need a microphone or anything else. We don't
even need to speak out loud. All we need to do is pray in our
heads and call on him to help us. If we do, he will be there!
Isn't that a wonderful promise? (Let them answer.) Yes, indeed, we
do have a wonderful Savior!
Dear Jesus: Thank you for promising to be there when we need you.
Amen.
