I once heard a definition of original sin as being like walking through a network of treacle. That's quite a good description of the sucking power of sin, and the way it sticks. We're all involved in original sin because we can't step outside the network, and the treacle drags everyone down. But people very often define "sin" rather narrowly in terms of sexual practices, and by concentrating on denouncing that, manage to ignore any other concept.
