All Things Are Ready
Communion Prayers for the Church Year and Pastoral Occasions
Object:
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give God thanks and praise.
All glory is yours, God most holy. In all of the universe, none is more worthy of praise and glory, service and devotion.
No one is perfect but God in heaven.
Through your love and by your grace, you have invited us to be your people. The pages of the Bible witness to your invitation to share in your glory and in the unfolding of your kingdom.
Your word is like a lamp to our feet.
Yet we are uncertain and hesitant even as you raise up leaders and teachers to show us your way. We are reluctant to believe in your unfailing love and bountiful grace.
The Word became flesh and lived among us and we have seen his glory.
For you came among us as Jesus of Nazareth, speaking words of hope, showing signs of grace, and inviting everyone to see your love.
From his fullness we have all received grace upon grace.
In Jesus Christ we have seen your way, heard your truth, and been offered renewed life in this world and eternal life in the world to come. For in Christ, all your glory came to rest as the disciples saw upon the mountain when he stood as one greater than the greatest prophet and the giver of the law.
Through Christ all things are possible.
As your people, called by Christ, we have gathered at this table to remember and to celebrate your gifts to us. Through this bread we remember that Christ gave up everything for our sakes and died broken on a cross.
By his wounds we are healed.
We also drink from the cup remembering that through it you made the new covenant with us. Through Christ and by Christ we are brought back to you and know of your mercy and pardon for our sins.
In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loves us.
As we eat and drink, we pray that your Holy Spirit might move among us that we might know again your great love for us. Fill us with the hope of the resurrection and the assurance of the cross that we might go from this place telling of your goodness and sharing in your grace. For we ask this of you, God most holy, in the name of Jesus Christ and by the power of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.
Amen.
And also with you.
