Object Lessons and other Worship Stories for Children
Children may be motivated to read the Bible if they are told it contains stories.
Objects: a telephone book, a Bible, and a child's storybook.
What kind of book is this? (Show an open telephone book.) What does a telephone book have in it? (Let them answer.) Right. Lists of names and lists of numbers.
What is this book called? (Show an open Bible.) Does the Bible have lists of names and lists of numbers like the telephone book has?
What kind of book is this? (Show an open child's storybook.) Right. This is a storybook. How is a Bible like a child's storybook? (Show both the open Bible and the open storybook.) (Let them discuss it.) Right. A Bible has stories in it. Right here in the Bible is the story of Jesus holding little children in his arms. (Show them Mark 10:13-16.)
The Bible has some other stories for children. Many of the stories in the Bible are for older children and grownups to read. I hope that you'll read the stories in the Bible as you're growing up. I also hope that you'll have read all the stories of the Bible by the time you're as old as a grandma or a grandpa.
