Yes, it is in Crestline, California, and it is a composite figure with eyes of an Oriental, nose of an African-American, mouth and chin of a white person. In its hand there is a fire axe.
In the 1950s a government honors camp for prison convicts was built at Pilot Rock near Crestline. There was local reaction against it being there.
But there came a day when forest fires threatened Crestline, and the convicts were allowed to fight the fire. Nisei Americans, blacks, and whites fought side by side, and finally won their fight.
Today, Crestline has this odd statue, the only one of its kind, dedicated to human brotherhood and in honor of prison convicts.
