Pastor: Hello, everyone. Today I've asked Peter to lead us in a prayer. Are you ready, Peter?
Peter: I sure am. (Rings a bell) Okay, Lord! Rise and shine!
Pastor: Wait a minute. What's the bell for?
Peter: I was just making sure God was awake, so he could hear us when we pray.
Pastor: What?
Peter: Well, you never know. He might be taking a nap or something. So I thought I'd better make sure he was awake before we pray.
Pastor: Peter, you don't have to worry about that. You don't have to wake God up.
Peter: I don't?
Pastor: No. You see, Psalm 121 says that God never slumbers or sleeps. He's always there when we want to talk to him.
Peter: Doesn't God ever get tired?
Pastor: No. God is so strong and so powerful that he never gets tired.
Peter: Wow!
Pastor: Are you ready to lead us in prayer now?
Peter: Yep. (Rings bell again)
Pastor: Hold it, I just told you, you don't have to wake God up.
Peter: I know. I just want to get his attention. There may be lots of people praying now. I want to be sure that he pays attention to us, so he'll know what we're praying for.
Pastor: Peter, you don't have to worry about that, either.
Peter: I don't?
Pastor: No. God always hears us when we pray. Even if everyone else in the whole world were praying at the same time, God would hear what we say.
Peter: How can he do that?
Pastor: Because God is everywhere, and he knows everything. Whenever and wherever we pray, he'll be there, and he'll hear us.
Peter: Wow! Is that true? That means God's really wonderful, doesn't it? He's always awake, and always listening, and always ready to help us. Are you ready to pray now, everybody? Let's bow our heads.
Dear God, thank you for listening to us. Help us to love everyone as much as you love us. Help us always to remember to be kind, and caring, and forgiving. Help us to do all the things you tell us to do in the Bible. Help us to love you and Jesus even more every day. Amen.
