Cycle B, Series IV
First Lesson: Proverbs 31:10-31
Theme: Worthy of praise is the woman (believer) who fears the Lord.
Call To Worship
Leader: This is the day the Lord has made; let us celebrate and praise God!
People: Let our hearts be raised in word and song for God's mercy and grace.
Leader: Wise is the one who lives with the guidance and love of the Lord.
People: For we are God's children and we are called to be faithful and obedient.
Leader: And our faith and obedience will bring praise and honor unto God.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, we are so grateful for those who have chosen to walk in faith, especially our spouses, for surely there are few greater earthly blessings than to share Your love in our marriages. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we have taken for granted the blessings You have showered upon our lives through the loved ones You have sent us. And too often we have felt like we deserved Your blessings because of who we are, and we have not thanked You for being merciful unto us. Forgive us, Lord, and help us to keep a sense of joy and praise in our hearts for our loved ones. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Showers Of Blessings"
"Open My Eyes, That I May See"
"Beneath The Cross Of Jesus"

Call To Worship
Leader: In the beginning was God, and all of creation knew God's love.
People: But in this day does God know the real problems of this world?
Leader: God the Sustainer knows the sadness our choices have brought.
People: But does God truly care about our lives here and now?
Leader: God so loves us that Jesus died on the cross that we might have life!
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Almighty Creator God, in Your infinite wisdom You have extended to us Your peace, joy, and wisdom if we will only open our hearts and seek Your presence. We praise You, O merciful God. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we act as though we know all there is to be known and as though our wisdom about life were best, even attempting to guide the lives of others around us. And too often, Lord, we have chosen to forget the wisdom, mercy, and peace You would give us, that we might truly have genuine love to share. Forgive us and help us to seek Your wisdom, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee"
"For The Healing Of The Nations"
"I Am Thine, O Lord"

Gospel: Mark 9:30-37
Theme: Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of God?
Call To Worship
Leader: Fear not, for God is with us and we are promised God's peace and joy!
People: But none of us are worthy and none have lived without sin and sorrow.
Leader: Yet in Christ we are called into the Kingdom of God, free from our sins.
People: Then who among us will be called great before the throne of God?
Leader: As Jesus served, those who would be great will be the servants of all.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, when Jesus walked among us to spread Your message of redemption and love, He did not elevate Himself above those He came to save. Lord, let us be Your servants in today's world. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we would think of ourselves as reaching greatness in Your Kingdom, and we hold to visions of receiving privilege and honor. We desperately struggle, Lord, with Your words calling us to be servants in a needy, hurting world. Forgive us, Lord, and use us again and again to serve others and to share Your Good News with all who have the ears to hear. In Christ we pray. Amen.
