Object:
Modern civilization is bugged by the problem of what to do with rapidly accumulating trash and garbage. The litterbug has ruined the beauty of some of our national parks; and our highways constantly have to be cleaned due to the thoughtless behavior of motorists.
As for the air we breathe, smog causes respiratory illness in big cities. The water supply must be guarded from contamination. Food and medicine must not be polluted either. Especially provoking is knowing what to do with atomic waste products.
It is all a material parallel to the spiritual pollution we call sin.
Not only that, material pollution often has moral implications as well. Our earthly environment is seriously involved in the effect it has on all areas of human lives.
Even as we must stop material pollution, we need the redeeming grace of God to stop our spiritual destruction by sin and evil.
