CALL TO WORSHIP
Sing to the Eternal One as long as you live; praise your God while you have any breath.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Creator God, personal God, Giver of life, your works of nature are countless, your patience with mankind seems endless, your gifts of grace are various. We do not appreciate the wisdom of your creating genius without continued study and wonder. We take for granted too many of the creatures to which you have given life in our earth and sea and sky. We forget to give thanks and to bring praise to your name. We are jealous of the gifts you have given others and fail to use the particular gifts you have given us. Forgive the neglect of our gifts and of the opportunities to use them in the body of Christ, the church; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
DECLARATION OF GOD'S FORGIVENESS
Hear the Good News! We were all brought into one body by baptism, in the one Spirit, whatever our language and nationality, whatever our place in society, and that One Spirit was poured out for all of us to drink. Friends, believe the Good News. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
EXHORTATION
There are a variety of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are varieties of service, but the same Lord. There are many forms of work, but all of them, in all, are the work of the same God. Use your gifts for some useful purpose.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
Holy Spirit, given One, gift of God, the Sender and the Sent, grant us continuing peace and the gift of discernment, that we may he as forgiving as you are, and as true in expecting repentance in others as in ourselves. Amen.
PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
God of variety, we give thanks for your many and varied gifts to the church; for gifts of wise speech, putting deep knowledge into words, for gifts of faith and healing of mind and body; for the gifts of prophecy and discernment of truth and falsehood for ecstatic speech and music and the ability to interpret it. We rejoice in the unity that is possible when these gifts are received willingly and coordinated by the Spirit as the activity of the one Body of Christ. We celebrate that unity of one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one work. May your glory stand forever, that you may rejoice in your own work in nature and in the church. Amen.
PRAYER OF DEDICATION
God all glorious, there is nothing we can tell you that you do not know. There is nothing we can give you that you have not made possible. Though you have given us thefreedom to he silent and to withhold our gifts, we offer our prayers and our gifts; in the name and spirit of Jesus Christ. Amen.
PSALM 104:1a, 24-34, 35b
Bless the LORD, O my soul.
O LORD, how manifold are your works!
In wisdom you have made them all;
the earth is full of your creatures.
Yonder is the sea, great and wide,
creeping things innumerable are there,
living things both small and great.
There go the ships,
and Leviathan that you formed to sport in it.
These all look to you to give them their food in due season;
when you give to them, they gather it up;
when you open your hand, they are filled with good things.
When you hide your face, they are dismayed;
when you take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.
When you send forth your spirit, they are created;
and you renew the face of the ground.
May the glory of the LORD endure forever;
may the LORD rejoice in his works -
who looks on the earth and it trembles,
who touches the mountains and they smoke.
I will sing to the LORD as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
May my meditation be pleasing to him,
for I rejoice in the LORD.
Bless the LORD, O my soul. Praise the LORD!
