My Cup Overflows
Children's sermon
Children's Sermons A To Z
Exegetical Aim: To demonstrate how God lavishes upon us his goodness and grace. Key verses: 28 specifically and Psalm 23:5b.
Props: A full pitcher of water, a good size clear glass, and a pan large enough to hold the water that will make ample noise when struck by falling water.
Lesson: Good morning! (response) How many of you this morning have friends? (response) Could anyone tell me why friends are important? (response) How many of you have brothers and sisters? (response) Tell me why brothers and sisters are important. (response) How many of you have moms and dads and grandparents? (response) Why are moms and dads so important? (response) Now, we've come to the best question. Tell me why grandparents are so important. (response) It's good to have all these people around because they add so much to our lives.
Place the pan in the middle of the children and hold the glass over the pan. As you say these next words, fill the glass approximately one--tenth full: Friends add pour the water so much to our lives. We play games with them. Bring attention to the glass. We talk with them and have all kinds of fun. Brothers and sisters are also important because they are part of our family. They add now pour another tenth even more to our lives. They love us and share their toys with us. They're always there to talk to; sometimes, they can teach us how to do new things. Moms and dads add now pour two--tenths or one--fifth more such a great deal to our lives it's hard to count how many things they do for us. They feed us and teach us; they love us and bathe us; they put bandaids on our boo--boos and hold us and rock us to sleep. They add so much to our lives! And what about your grandparents? Wow, they add pour another fifth so that the glass is three--fifths full so much to our lives. Grandparents buy us candy, don't they? (response) And they take us neat places and they love it best when we crawl up in their laps and fall asleep on their shoulders. And Grandma makes the best brownies! Grandparents are really special.
Application: For all that our friends, brothers, moms, dads, and grandparents do for us, they can only give us so much. They can't completely fill our cup. Only God can fill our cups. And, you know something, when God gives now fill the glass at a very slow and steady pace as you complete this paragraph he keeps giving and he never stops. He adds let the glass overflow at the same rate until all the water is poured out of the pitcher so much to our lives. He gave you your life and fills it with sunshine and rain; he fills it with friends and family. And, he doesn't stop there. He protects us and watches over us. He fills us with goodness and mercy. And, one day, we will live for ever and ever with God and our friends and family. God is so good! He fills our cups to overflowing!
Let's Pray: Lord, our cups are filled to overflowing because of your great love for us. We cannot contain all that you give. Amen.

Easter 4
Revelation 7:9--17
No More Tears
Exegetical Aim: To show that in heaven there will be no tears.
Props: A bottle of baby shampoo and some Kleenex tissues.
Lesson: How many of you have ever washed your hair? (response) Good, all of you have washed your hair before. Hold up the bottle of baby shampoo. Did your mom or dad ever use baby shampoo to wash your hair? (response) Why did they use baby shampoo? (response) Because if baby shampoo gets in your eyes, it doesn't sting and make you cry. We don't want people to cry, do we? Have you ever cried? (response) I think we all have cried before. When you cried, did your mom or dad ever use these? Hold up the tissues. (response) What did they do with these? (response) Why did they wipe away your tears? (response) That's right, because they didn't want to see you cry, and they wanted to make you feel better.
Application: Do you know what the Bible says about heaven? It says that in heaven God will wipe away every tear from our eyes. Hold a tissue to a child's face and gently touch it to the cheek. Why do you think that God will wipe our tears away? (response) Just like our parents, he loves us and doesn't want us to feel pain. So always remember that, though sometimes on earth there is sadness, one day we will see God, and there will be no more tears, because God will wipe away every tear! Isn't that wonderful?
Let's Pray: Thank you, God, that one day we will be with you because of Jesus Christ. Thank you that you will wipe away every tear, and that you will make everything better. In Jesus' name. Amen.
