Call To Worship
Leader: Look around, see the light.
People: Like sunrise, the light of God comes upon us.
Leader: Look around, see the light come to you.
People: Nothing stops the light of sunrise.
Leader: Lift up your eyes.
All: Look around, see the light.
Collect
Accept our movement toward the beacon of your light, O God. Accept us as we become even more aware of our imperfections and indiscretions. Lead us forward as we attempt to live in the radiance of your light. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Christmas is over yet a light remains. We have put away the decorations yet your presence, O God, stays with us. We confess that something about ourselves is different. Once, we were people in darkness looking for light. Now, we are people clothed in the light of our Savior. Let us live in his light. Amen.
08C Hymns
"Sing Praise To God" Tune: LOBE DEN HERREN
"People In Darkness Are Looking For Light" Tune: ADVENT
"Open My Eyes, That I May See" Tune: OPEN MY EYES
Epiphany Of Our Lord
Second Lesson: Ephesians 3:1-12
Theme: Sharing The Promise
Call To Worship
Leader: When I have access to God, I am no longer like a wheelchair-user separated by a flight of stairs.
People: When I have access to God, I am no longer like an unseeing person grasping in hands a book filled with life-giving but indecipherable words.
Leader: When I have access to God, nothing prevents me from sharing the promise.
Collect
The task of your apostle, Paul, was to make the news about Jesus accessible to the unconverted. We also, O God, are entrusted with seeing that nothing stands in the way of all who would know you. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Guide our lives, O God, so we might clear out the clutter of prejudice and other hindrances to communication that keep us from knowing you and from knowing those around us. Guide us as we share your promise. Through Christ. Amen.
08C Hymns
"God Of The Sparrow, God Of The Whale" Tune: ROEDER
"One Bread, One Body" Tune: ONE BREAD, ONE BODY
"[We Are One In The Spirit][They'll Know We Are Christians]" Tune: ST. BREND
Epiphany Of Our Lord
Gospel: Matthew 2:1-12
Theme: The Star Stops Here
Call To Worship
Consider for a moment how the star of Bethlehem lights up your life. What if this star were to stop over you, setting you apart and bringing you into a new awareness of how others see you and how you see yourself? How would you be changed? What difference would the star make in your life if, indeed, it were to stop over your head?
Collect
"Where is the Holy Child in our lives?" we ask. And you, O God, answer, "Right here, among you." In a world of present surprises, you bring light into our lives in unexpected ways. Help us to be worthy. For the sake of Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Dear God, help us to reflect the light of God's presence in our lives. Let your empowerment draw others toward you with curiosity and interest. For the sake of Christ. Amen.
08C Hymns
"O Morning Star, How Fair And Bright" Tune: WIE SCHÉN LEUCHTET DER MORGENSTERN
"Amen, Amen" Tune: AMEN
"The Star Proclaims The King Is Here" Tune: PUER NOBIS
