What a blessing a bridge can be!
Years ago it was a problem to go from one side of the Detroit River to the other. On the West was a growing American city: Detroit, Michigan. On the East side was another growing city: Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Ferry boats were unable to handle the volume of business created by the two cities.
Finally, a great bridge was proposed to span the river. Each side was to build on its own shore the necessary abutments, and then reach out to the middle of the span. Engineers drew up plans and supplies were obtained.
When the structure was started, it looked like a formidable task. Much hard work went into the construction. But as the spans reached out over the river below, interest began to grow. Week by week the arms reached toward each other, beckoning the workmen to come closer.
What a great day that must have been when the two spans were near enough the men could hear each other talking, high over the Detroit River. It was a time of rejoicing when they could proclaim the task of building "The Friendship Bridge" was completed.
Are we not supposed to be building bridges of friendship in various areas of life? And how about bridges for interpersonal relationships? You take it from there ...
