Fourth Sunday After Epiphany
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Theme: Christ -- The Power And Wisdom Of God
Call To Worship
Our God has power, but grants freedom. Our God passes judgment, but prefers mercy. Our God is self-sufficient, but delights in us whom he has created in his own image, and with whom he shares all things good and beautiful.
Invocation
Our Father, we pause again amid the hectic schedule of our busy lives, to seek strength and guidance. The more feverishly we work, the more we need rest. The more frantic our schedules, the more we need this time of worship and contemplation. The more conflicting voices there are in our lives, the more we need the quieting influence of your Spirit. So we cherish this hour knowing that it will revitalize our lives and renew our spirits. Amen.
Confession
Almighty God, we have been warned of the peril that comes from worshiping other gods, but we still bow before the idol of knowledge. We think that we can learn enough to build our own kingdom here on earth, and we forget that only with the wisdom that comes from you will we receive the power to overcome the forces of darkness. Forgive our foolishness, we pray, and grant us a new understanding of the power of the cross of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Heavenly Father, through the message of the Cross of Christ we have found the power of God. Now with these gifts we wish to share our blessings and the good news of Jesus Christ. Receive our offerings, and enable them to make a positive impact on our world. Amen.
Hymns
"Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise"
"In The Cross Of Christ I Glory"
"Wellspring Of Wisdom"
