Call To Worship
Leader: For God gave to Abraham and Sarah a covenant and made of them a nation!
People: But the nation did not remember the Lord nor were they faithful to God.
Leader: Then God promised and delivered to us a new covenant open to all
People: And in Christ our sins were forgiven, to be remembered no more.
Leader: The Lord is merciful and loving and truly worthy of our deepest praise.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O righteous and true God, You alone are just and You alone may condemn us for our sins. Yet instead, in Your mercy and grace, You offer us salvation in the new covenant. Thank You, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, just like the children of Israel, we have forgotten our covenant with You, or we have acted as if You had never given us the new covenant in Christ at all. Forgive us, O Lord, and help us remember the commitment we made when we first became members of Your Holy Kingdom and we accepted Your love, mercy, and grace. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Love, Mercy, and Grace"
"He Lifted Me"
"Near To The Heart Of God"
Fifth Sunday In Lent
Second Lesson: Hebrews 5:5-10
Theme: Perfect obedience
Call To Worship
Leader: Come, let all who seek the will of the Lord gather now for worship.
People: To follow Christ is to seek the will of the One who sent Him in our lives.
Leader: The obedience of Christ was perfect even unto death for our sake.
People: Jesus, who knew no sin, died for our sins that we might know God's love.
Leader: So let our hearts be joined in love and praise before Almighty God!
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, Creator of all the Universe, You alone have opened the door to our salvation. We were not worthy, but You sent us the Christ that we might again be Your children. We praise You, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we have allowed ourselves to feel as though we were good people and worthy of Your love and grace. But, O God, we have forgotten or ignored that it was through Your cross and Your grace that we received our salvation and that we have no grounds for boasting. Forgive us, Lord, and use our lives to take Your love into all the world. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Praise To The Lord"
"Love Divine, All Loves Excelling"
"Jesus Calls Us O'er The Tumult"
Fifth Sunday In Lent
Gospel: John 12:20-33
Theme: The divine paradox: To die that we might live
Call To Worship
Leader: Blessed be the Lord to whom all wisdom and might belong!
People: Only as we yield our lives before the Lord will we truly be servants.
Leader: For only as we live for Christ daily do we find genuine life itself.
People: Let us have joy in our hearts as we seek each day to serve the Lord.
Leader: For great is the Lord and greatly is God to be praised.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, surely Your ways are not our ways. You taught us that only as we yield our wills to You do we have the wonderful, vibrant life You intended for us to live. Help us yield, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we try to understand the world and life using only our own wisdom, and we fall short. Too often we even insist that You must fit our ways instead of us accepting You as our Creator God. In our grandest dreams, we think too small, yet when we accept that we are created to be Your children, we see greatness. Forgive us, Lord, and help our faith. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"At The Name Of Jesus"
"My Hope Is Built"
"Have Thine Own Way, Lord"
