All Things Are Ready
Communion Prayers for the Church Year and Pastoral Occasions
Object:
This prayer makes reference to the stories highlighted in the Old Testament and gospel through the Lenten season in Cycle B.
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is good to give God thanks and praise.
It is right and good to praise you God. Throughout history you have made covenants with men and women of faith. You have made your solemn promises to them, and the blessings of faith have been theirs.
In the days of Noah, you made the rainbow as a sign of your promise to never abandon us to our sins.
In the time of Abraham and Sarah, you gave a child as a sign that you provide a bountiful future for all people of faith.
In the time of Moses, you gave the Ten Commandments so that we would always know your will for our lives.
In the time of Jeremiah, you promised that one day your law would be written in our hearts.
We give you thanks and praise, O God, that you completed your promises through Jesus of Nazareth. For through Jesus Christ you offer us yourself. Through his body and blood, you have taken upon yourself our sins and transgressions. Through Jesus’ death upon the cross, you have sealed this covenant and our salvation.
We give you thanks for all of your promises which touch upon our lives and offer us hope and faith. You have made us inheritors of all the promises you made to our ancestors. You have called to each of us to be your people and to share in the bounty of your love and grace.
On this Easter morning, we give you thanks that the women coming to the tomb found it empty. We give you thanks that through Jesus you have opened for us the way to eternal life.
As we come before this table, we remember the promises you make to us through the law and the prophets, and we remember the new covenant you make to us through Jesus Christ.
We remember and rejoice in the salvation you have given us through Jesus Christ. We remember and rejoice that you have triumphed over death and sin. We remember and rejoice with all peoples of the world as we proclaim that “Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again!”
Send your Holy Spirit upon us, we pray, that as we take this bread and drink from this cup we might know again the living Christ among us. Fill us with the joy and enthusiasm of Easter that we might respond with our lives, so that as your holy people and your holy church we might transform our world in the name of Jesus Christ.
Amen.
